Why is it important for me to update my address with the university?
There are many reasons why Laurentian University asks for you to update your address and information:
-To continue receiving your Laurentian Magazine in the mail and the Laurentian Connection e-newsletter via e-mail.
-So we can connect you with others who may be trying to contact you (example: class reunions)
-To send important information regarding reunions and other Laurentian events
-So that alumni are aware of our affinity programs, benefits, discounts and other perks
When I send my address update to LU, where does it go and how can I be assured that my privacy is protected.
Once a student graduates, the Alumni Relations office maintains a database of Laurentian’s growing alumni. To keep grads connected with the university, we strive to ensure that our records are as up-to-date as possible.
Laurentian University’s office of Alumni Relations respects your privacy and adheres to all federal and provincial privacy acts. Please follow this link for more information regarding Alumni Relations’ privacy policy.
- I would like to order a copy of my official transcript or proof of enrollment from Laurentian.
- Help! I lost or need to replace my Laurentian diploma!
Howlong is my @laurentian.ca e-mail account active for?
Roughly two years after you graduate Laurentian University classifies your e-mail as ‘retired’ and will delete your account. We recommend that you make necessary steps to forward any e-mails from your x_lastname@laurentian.ca e-mail account to another one before it becomes inactive after you graduate. Lost e-mails cannot be retrieved once an account has been deleted.
Wait. I need to apply to graduate??
Graduation? Convocation? What’s the difference?
After you have notified the Registrar’s Office that you plan on graduating, and your application has been approved by the Senate, you can attend Convocation. Convocation is the proper name for the graduation ceremony where you receive your diploma from Laurentian’s president. Ceremonies are held in the fall and spring – depending on your program of study and request for graduation.
The Registrar’s Office will contact you with the date and time for your Convocation ceremony including where to pick up your gown and hood.
Where do I go to get my graduation photos taken?
The photographer will also be on-site for Convocation but spaces fill up quickly. It’s best to book your graduation photo sitting during the school year.
I want to keep or purchase the Laurentian hood and/or grad gown that I wore at convocation. Can I?
Graduation hoods and gowns worn at Convocation must be returned after the ceremony. They are available for purchase directly through the supplier DSR Harcourts Ltd.
I keep hearing about "perks" available to alumni when they graduate. Where can I learn more?
- Where can I get a frame?
- Are the frames only available at Convocation?
At Convocation you can get your new diploma framed on-site or year-round from the Alumni Relations office. Stop by the office located in the Arts building, room A121 (across from Tim Horton’s) to see our selection in person and take one home today or see them now online.
I don’t need the frame; can I just buy the blue mat on its own?
Unfortunately we do not sell blue mats with the Laurentian crest individually. Diploma and photo frames are sold together and cannot be offered separately.
How do I order a frame?
I’m not receiving my Laurentian Magazine. Who should I contact?

I want to get in touch with/trying to find/wondering if (person) is still teaching at Laurentian. Can you please tell me where to find them?
The Alumni Relations office can confirm that an alumni has graduated from Laurentian or that a professor is still teaching, but privacy laws dictate that we cannot give any further information without their personal consent. We would be happy to contact them on your behalf and pass on how they can reach you.
I'd like to organize a class reunion. Where do I start?
Fist visit our Reunions page to see if there might already be a reunion planned!
If not, contact the Alumni Relations office for the first steps to organizing your own reunion.
What exactly does the Alumni Association do?
I'd like to become more active with my Alumni Association. How does one do this?
If you’re interested in being more involved with your alma mater, being part of the Alumni Association is the best way to do so! Application forms are available from the Alumni Relations office upon request and need to include a current résumé in order to be considered.
The Laurentian University Alumni Association’s constitution dictates the composition of the board and the number of seats. When a vacancy becomes available, a nominating committee is formed to review all applications received and report back to the board.
Can I book the Great Hall or other facilities on campus for weddings or special events?
I’d like to buy Laurentian apparel or merchandise. When’s the Bookstore open?
