Message from the Associate Dean

The movement toward quality and the possibility of AACSB accreditation is the single most righteous challenge facing the Faculty of Management in the coming years. It sends the message to stakeholder that we will strive toward continuous improvement and differentiation. This long-term focus on quality is bound to yield results beyond our current imagination as the processes outlined by the AACSB will ensure that we are always paying attentions to the evolving needs of our clients, of the employers that will employ them, of our staff and faculty members, of our senior management, and of our donors.

Critical to the successful implementation of a continuous improvement program is the notion of staff and faculty engagement. Only through the support and efforts of our human resources can we create the kind of environment that is needed to achieve program outcomes. This will require more discussion and sharing of best practices around the basic standards, policies and processes needed to achieve the Faculty’s vision and mission while at the same time, preserving academic freedom. It will require team-based approaches to problem solving and building successful projects including in research. It will require acceptance of change and innovation in teaching and learning and in program structuring. And it will require communication – amongst ourselves, with students, employers and the communities that we serve.

The Faculty of Management is equal to the challenge – we have a track record in entrepreneurship and innovation that is evident in our online education partnerships with CGA Canada and IBAC; in our substantial strength in accounting; in our work on non-credit professional development activities; and in our new Barrie campus.  As in any other growing and successful organization, we have work to do in aligning systems to continue to improve, but we have the experience and knowledge as a business school to do so.
