Represents all employees of Laurentian University in clerical, technical, administrative, service work, maintenance, operations, printing and residence departments, security guards, save those paid by other than operating and/or ancillary funds.

Represents all administrative and professional staff of Laurentian University.

GREETING A NEW HIRE

It is important to make new hires feel welcome.  If possible, meet with your new hire prior to their first day of work to discuss the following:

·         When and where to arrive

·         Where to park

·         Whom to report to

·         Let other staff know a new employee is starting

·         Have the telephone and all computer program access (groupwise, novell) prepared

 

THE BASICS

·         Point out the location of the washroom

·         Point ou the location of the lunchroom

·         Give a quick tour of the area

·         Show your new hire where to store personal belongings

·         Show your new hire their workstation.  Have this station assessed for ergonomic standards to avoid injuries. (Ergonomic Assessment Process)

 

JOB SPECIFIC ORIENTATION

 

Working hours

            Regular hours:             9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m; 

Summertime hours:     8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.;

 

NOTE:  Check the collective agreements for hours of work for your specific area.

·         Explain when, how and what they get paid
