Liaison Services is Here to Help: Presentations We Can Deliver in The Classroom

Grade 10 – What is University?*

A great introduction to get students thinking about their post-secondary education. Our Liaison Officer will give them a general introduction to university and discuss areas such as the different type degrees available at Ontario universities, career paths, and important resources.  Counsellors often find this to complement their Career Studies classes. Preferably from January – June.

Grade 11 – Choosing a University*

Building on the areas introduced in What is University?, the Liaison Officer will offer a more intensive discussion of the topics students need to understand when it is time to apply.  The group will examine the grade 12 timeline, how to research options, the application process, offers of admission and much more. Preferably from January – June.

Grade 12 - Individual School Visits (ISV)

During the fall season, one of our Liaison Assistants will visit those who are in the 12th grade and interested in Laurentian University.   The presentation is open and friendly; students have the opportunity to have their questions answered about the wide range of programs and services available to them.

*Due to demand, counsellors are asked to book well in advance for grade 10 and 11 groups.   [Top]

Helping Our Students Every Step of The Way: Entrance Awards and Scholarships

Laurentian University is committed to helping students meet the monetary challenges of post-secondary education by offering a variety of financial aid programs. Our entrance awards are an important source of financing, and are available to students entering the first year of full-time studies at Laurentian University (Sudbury campus) with no previous post-secondary experience. Information on awards and all applications are automatically sent to students with their offer of admission. Copies of all applications are also available for counsellors and students to download from our website at www.studentawards.laurentian.ca.

Admissions and Applications

Calculating the admissions average

The specific Grade 12 U or M courses (or equivalents) and minimum grades required vary by program.  With the exception of the Midwifery program, Laurentian uses the applicants’ best six grades to calculate the admission average, regardless of required courses.

Repeated Courses

If a student must repeat a course, Laurentian will take the best of the two marks, without penalization to the student.

Alternate Offers

If a student is not offered admission to the program of his or her choice, Laurentian will offer the student admission to an alternate program of study.  After the successful completion of one year full-time university studies,  the student may be eligible to re-apply as an internal transfer.
