To understand SPAD, it is important to understand its history. The program was first offered in 1972 when it became apparent that sport industry organizations and businesses required specifically educated personnel. In response, Laurentian University faculty members from the School of Commerce and Administration and the School of Physical and Health Education (Human Kinetics) developed a unique partnership that has yet to be duplicated. Working with key Canadian sport leaders, faculty members from the two founding Schools designed a programme that was the first of its kind. It remains our belief that our graduates remain the only ones to receive an Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Sports Administration in North America.
