BURSARIES

SPORTS ADMINISTRATION

Students must submit completed bursary application forms to the Student Awards Office, 1st floor, R.D. Parker Building. A Bursary application forms can be printed using Adobe Acrobat.  Unless otherwise, specified, only one bursary application forms is required for all bursaries.

The School of Sports Administration Bursaries (2)

  • Requirements: Full-time students enrolled in the Sports Administration program (one 3rd-year student, one 4th-year student), on the basis of financial need and Ontario residency, as defined by OSAP. Application required.
  • Value: $500/ea

The Dr. Bob Wanzel Sports Administration Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by alumni, family and friends in attendance at the SPAD 25th Reunion celebration in 1998, the Dr. Bob Wanzel Bursary is awarded to a fulltime student in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of the SPAD program who can demonstrate financial need, academic excellence (minimum 75%), and leadership qualities.   Application is required. Candidates must attach a detailed letter outlining extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities.

The SGA Capital Campaign Bursaries

  • Requirements: Students who are SGA members, Ontario residents as defined by OSAP, have financial need, are active in extracurricular activities and meet the other criteria specified below. Students must submit a short statement outlining how they meet criteria. Application required. Donated by the SGA to the University's Capital Fundraising Campaign (1997), the following bursaries are awarded annually

The D'Arcy McDonald SPAD Award - other criteria: enrolment in Sports Administration.

Commerce/SPAD ’80 Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by the 1980 graduating class of the Bachelor of Commerce and Sports Administration Degrees this is awarded to aid a student of the Laurentian University, who is enrolled in either of these programs.  Application is required.
  • Value: $500

Richard Pound SPAD Bursary

  • Requirements: “Richard Pound SPAD Bursary”. Established by alumni, family and friends in attendance at the SPAD 35th Reunion celebration in 2007, the Richard Pound SPAD Bursary will be awarded to a student enrolled in the 1st year of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Sports Administration.  Selection of the recipient is based on academic excellence (min. 80%) in an Ontario secondary school (6 best U/M courses).  The bursary will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP.  Application is required.

Phillips Family Bursary

  • Requirements:  Established by family and friends. The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to aid a student enrolled in the 3rd Sports Administrative program at Laurentian University based on their 2nd year academic excellence. The bursary will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP.  Application is required.

Sudbury Credit Union Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by the Sudbury Credit Union, Lively Branch. The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to aid a student of Laurentian University from the Greater City of Sudbury area. The recipient must be a 2nd, 3rd or 4th year undergraduates enrolled in the Commerce, Economics or SPAD program. The recipient must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Application is required.
  • Value is $1,000.

SPAD 35th Alumni Awards

  • Requirements: Established by SPAD Alumni 35th Anniversary.  The purpose of thie award is to provide financial assistance to aid a student of Laurentian University who is enrolled in the SPAD program.  This bursary is open to 2nd, 3rd or 4th year SPAD students.  Two awards of approximately $1,000/year.  One for a 4th year student and one for a 2nd or 3rd year student. Minimum of 75% average in courses to date, high level of contribution to the program (SPAD Council, research, ISM work, events participation, volunteerism in sport/event management, etc.) & financial need required.  A recommendation from the SPAD Director and at least one SPAD or Commerce professor is required.  Value is variable.  Application is required.

Ira Bailey SPAD Bursary  

  • Requirements: Established by family and friends. The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to aid a mature student of Laurentian University who is enrolled in the SPAD program. The bursary will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP.   Application is required.

Ken and Denise Derrett SPAD Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by Ken and Denise Derrett.  The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to aid a student of Laurentian University who is enrolled in the SPAD program.  Students are to submit a short (500 word) essay with their application highlighting why they chose to enrol in SPAD and what they aspire to do with a SPAD degree.  The recipient must be a resident of Ontario, as defined by OSAP. Value is variable. Application is required.

Sudbury Wolves Community Club SPAD Bursary

 

  • Requirements:  Established by the Sudbury Wolves Community Club. The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to a student of Laurentian University who is enrolled in the SPAD program. The recipient will be selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Application is required.
  • Value :  variable

Bernie and Mary Langlois Family Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by Bernie and Mary Langlois to provide financial assistance to a student at Laurentian University. The recipient must be enrolled at the undergraduate or graduate level in the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, Management, Medicine (registered through Laurentian University) or Architecture (once approved by LU senate). Where possible, preference will be given to a student who currently lives or previously resided in the Coniston area. If there is no qualified applicant from the Coniston area, the bursary will be awarded to a qualified student in the previously mentioned programs. The bursary will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Value is variable. Application is required.
